Shivala Bagh Bhaiyan Mandir, popularly known as Bhaiyan Da Shivala, is one of the oldest and most spiritually significant Shiva temples in Amritsar, located in the Shivala Colony area near Tilak Nagar. This historic temple is said to have been established by two devout brothers originally from Uttar Pradesh, who were affectionately referred to as “Bhaiya Ji” by the local Punjabi community—hence the name “Bhaiyan Da Shivala.” Over the years, the temple has evolved into a sacred space not only for the worship of Lord Shiva, but also for other deities including Lord Hanuman, Lord Ram and Sita, Goddess Durga, Radha-Krishna, Santoshi Maa, and Lakshmi-Narayan Ji, making it a vibrant spiritual hub for devotees of all ages. The sanctum houses a powerful Shivling, around which devotees perform abhishek, especially during the sacred month of Sawan and on Mondays, which are dedicated to Shiva. The temple comes alive during Mahashivratri, when thousands gather for special rituals like Shiv Vivah, all-night jagrans, and community langar. One of the most cherished beliefs associated with this temple is the tradition of observing “Chaupahar”, where devotees stay for four pahars (segments of the night) in prayer on any Monday of Sawan to seek blessings for their deepest wishes. During these festivals, the temple is decorated with flowers, dry fruits, and bhugga (sweet offerings), and the atmosphere is filled with devotional music, bells, incense, and a deep sense of peace and community. Run by a local trust, Shivala Bagh Bhaiyan is not just a temple, but a living center of faith, tradition, and spiritual healing, where generations of devotees continue to find solace and strength.
