Hanuman Mandir
Hanuman Mandir – Achli Gate, Batala
Nestled near Achli Gate—one of the twelve historic entrances of Batala’s old walled city—Hanuman Mandir is a modest yet deeply cherished shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the embodiment of strength and devotion. Though its precise origins remain undocumented, local tradition places its establishment several generations ago, likely as a spiritual landmark for travelers entering through Achli Gate and for the residents of Chakri Bazaar Road. The temple’s unassuming brick facade houses an idol of Hanuman in his typical posture—hands folded or wielding a mace—where devotees gather daily from early morning till evening, offering flowers, chunri (sacred cloth), and prasad. The temple’s warm, lively atmosphere is enhanced by the rhythmic chants of “Jai Hanuman”, making it a focal point of communal worship. During Hanuman Jayanti and Tuesdays, the temple sees a dramatic rise in footfall, and devotees join in reading the Hanuman Chalisa, performing aarti, and taking prasad together. Set against the backdrop of the bustling marketplace and adjacent to a popular local kachori eatery, the Hanuman Mandir exemplifies how sacred spaces seamlessly blend spiritual life with daily commerce, serving as both a sanctuary for the soul and a pillar of Batala’s living heritage.
