<strong data-start=\"163\" data-end=\"182\">Guwahati, Assam<\/strong>, is one of the most revered <strong data-start=\"211\" data-end=\"229\">Shakti Peethas<\/strong> in India and a significant center of <strong data-start=\"267\" data-end=\"286\">Tantric worship<\/strong>. Dedicated to <strong data-start=\"301\" data-end=\"321\">Goddess Kamakhya<\/strong>, an incarnation of <strong data-start=\"341\" data-end=\"362\">Shakti or Parvati<\/strong>, the temple is believed to be the spot where the <strong data-start=\"412\" data-end=\"449\">womb and genitals of Goddess Sati<\/strong> fell when her body was dismembered by Lord Vishnu&#8217;s Sudarshan Chakra during the grief-stricken rage of Lord Shiva. Unlike most Hindu temples that house a deity in the form of an idol, the Kamakhya Temple enshrines a <strong data-start=\"666\" data-end=\"707\">natural stone yoni (female genitalia)<\/strong> shaped depression, constantly moistened by an underground spring and symbolizing the creative power of the feminine divine. The temple\u2019s origins are ancient, but the current structure was rebuilt in the <strong data-start=\"911\" data-end=\"927\">17th century<\/strong> by <strong data-start=\"931\" data-end=\"972\">King Naranarayana of the Koch dynasty<\/strong> after being destroyed by earlier invasions. The architecture combines <strong data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1079\">Nagara and local Assamese styles<\/strong>, with a beehive-shaped shikhara, sculpted panels, and a sanctum that radiates intense spiritual energy.<\/p><p data-start=\"1185\" data-end=\"2436\">Kamakhya is particularly known for its deep association with <strong data-start=\"1246\" data-end=\"1265\">Tantric rituals<\/strong>, and it is one of the very few temples in India where such esoteric practices are openly performed. The temple draws thousands of pilgrims, especially during the <strong data-start=\"1428\" data-end=\"1446\">Ambubachi Mela<\/strong>, an annual four-day festival that celebrates the menstruation of the goddess, during which the temple is closed and devotees wait patiently for her \u201cpurification.\u201d During this time, it is believed that the earth becomes fertile, and this symbolism draws both spiritual seekers and practitioners of tantra. Apart from this, other festivals such as <strong data-start=\"1794\" data-end=\"1808\">Durga Puja<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1810\" data-end=\"1826\">Manasha Puja<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1832\" data-end=\"1848\">Vasanti Puja<\/strong> are also celebrated with great devotion. The temple complex also includes ten other temples dedicated to the <strong data-start=\"1958\" data-end=\"1972\">Mahavidyas<\/strong>, the ten forms of the goddess in tantric tradition. Kamakhya is not just a temple\u2014it is a <strong data-start=\"2063\" data-end=\"2092\">powerful spiritual center<\/strong>, a place of mystery and transformation, where divine feminine energy is celebrated in its rawest and most potent form.
