capital of Odisha, is one of the most ancient and architecturally magnificent temples in India, dedicated primarily to <strong data-start=\"291\" data-end=\"305\">Lord Shiva<\/strong> in the unique form of <strong data-start=\"328\" data-end=\"340\">Harihara<\/strong>, which represents a divine fusion of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Built in the <strong data-start=\"419\" data-end=\"435\">11th century<\/strong> by the <strong data-start=\"443\" data-end=\"464\">Somavamsi dynasty<\/strong> and later expanded by the <strong data-start=\"491\" data-end=\"506\">Ganga kings<\/strong>, this temple stands as a classic example of <strong data-start=\"551\" data-end=\"581\">Kalinga-style architecture<\/strong>. The temple complex is massive, sprawling over 250,000 square feet and enclosed by high fortified walls. The main sanctum features a towering <strong data-start=\"724\" data-end=\"742\">vimana (spire)<\/strong> that rises to <strong data-start=\"757\" data-end=\"775\">about 180 feet<\/strong>, dominating Bhubaneswar&#8217;s skyline. Inside, the <strong data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"843\">Swayambhu lingam<\/strong>, believed to have manifested from the earth, is worshipped daily with rituals drawn from both Shaivite and Vaishnavite traditions. This blend reflects the deep religious harmony that has historically characterized Odisha\u2019s spiritual landscape. The temple\u2019s four main parts \u2014 the <strong data-start=\"1123\" data-end=\"1143\">sanctum (vimana)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1145\" data-end=\"1175\">assembly hall (jagamohana)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1177\" data-end=\"1208\">festival hall (natamandira)<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1214\" data-end=\"1246\">bhog mandapa (offering hall)<\/strong> \u2014 are all intricately carved with detailed stonework depicting gods, goddesses, dancers, and mythological scenes.<\/p><p data-start=\"1362\" data-end=\"2581\">Surrounding the main shrine are more than <strong data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1426\">50 smaller temples<\/strong>, each a marvel in itself. Just outside the temple lies the sacred <strong data-start=\"1493\" data-end=\"1512\">Bindusagar Tank<\/strong>, believed to be fed by a mystical underground river and used in many temple rituals and festivals. The <strong data-start=\"1616\" data-end=\"1636\">Lingaraja Temple<\/strong> is not just a site of worship but a vibrant center of spiritual life, where <strong data-start=\"1713\" data-end=\"1747\">festivals like Maha Shivaratri<\/strong>, celebrated with night-long vigils and offerings to Lord Shiva, draw thousands of pilgrims each year. Other major festivals include <strong data-start=\"1880\" data-end=\"1897\">Chandan Yatra<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"1906\" data-end=\"1927\">Rukuna Rath Yatra<\/strong>, during which the deity is taken out on a grand chariot procession. While non-Hindus are not permitted to enter the temple complex, a raised viewing platform outside allows visitors to admire its grandeur. The temple is managed by the <strong data-start=\"2163\" data-end=\"2189\">Lingaraja Temple Trust<\/strong>, and rituals are performed with strict adherence to ancient traditions. The temple has been mentioned in sacred texts such as the <strong data-start=\"2320\" data-end=\"2355\">Brahma Purana and Ekamra Purana<\/strong>, further underscoring its spiritual significance.
